Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, Mathura
Reach Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, Mathura around 6.30 in the morning. Visit the prison complex, famous as Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, where Lord Krishna was born. Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple is the most pious temple for Hindu devotees as it is the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is the only Supreme God who took an avatar in Dwapara Yuga. Dwapara Yuga is the third age of the world cycle of Yugas. The term comes from Sanskrit, Dwapara, and means “two ahead”.
It’s a high-security complex, so you cannot take your mobile, camera, and other large bags or purses inside. There is a cloakroom outside the main entry gate to keep all your items. They charge Rs.2.00 per item to keep your items in the cloakroom. Go for an early morning Darshan (around 7 am) to avoid the huge crowd and to enjoy the morning Aarti. Go early to enjoy Darshan, take in the surroundings, and also the stories and morals from paintings on the walls and ceilings. Also, there is a beautiful cave depicting the life of Lord Krishna. Timings to visit Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple are
- In Summers, 5 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9.30 PM
- In Winters, 5.30 AM to 12 PM and 3.00 PM to 8.30 PM
After visiting Krishna Janmabhoomi, head towards Govardhan Parvat (Mountain) for a Parikrama (a revolution around the mountain). It is said that five thousand years ago the Govardhan Parvat was 30,000 m high, at present only 30 m height is left. This is due to the curse of Pulastya Rishi. He was extremely angry with Govardhan Parvat and said, “Because you did not fulfill my aspiration, every day you will decrease one sesame seed.” It is believed from that time Govardhan Hill shrunk one sesame seed per day.
After performing a Parikrama around Govardhan Parvat, have delicious traditional food in Mathura and proceed to Vrindavan.
Vrindavan
It’s better to reach Vrindavan by 3.30 at noon as all the temples and attractions of the place remain closed from 12.20 PM to 4.00 PM. Once you reach Vrindavan, park your car or vehicle in the multi-level parking near Prem Mandir. Then follow the sequence to cover all the attractions of Vrindavan without consuming much of your time.
Banke Bihari Temple
It is said that once a king of Rajasthan came to Vrindavan to visit Banke Bihari and he saw the eyes of Lord Banke Bihari (Lord Krishna) and watched him with utter love straight into Lord’s eyes. After this, the king went back to his kingdom. After some time, when the temple’s priests came to the temple, they found that Lord Banke Bihari is missing from his place. This incident created a panic situation among the priests of the temple.
Now, everyone started praying to God and got to know that Banke Bihari has gone with the king to his kingdom. After much prayer, God was re-established in the temple. Since then, no one is allowed to see God constantly direct in his eyes. Hence, the curtain in front of Lord Krishna’s statue is opened and closed every few minutes to make sure that no devotee could see the Lord continuously.
Banke Bihar Temple is the oldest of all the temples in Vrindavan. Expect a huge crowd in Banke Bihari Temple throughout the year. After visiting Banke Bihari Temple, head towards ISKCON Temple.
ISKCON Temple
ISKCON stands for International Society for Krishna Consciousness. This temple in Vrindavan is one of the main ISKCON temples in India as well as internationally. This is a Sri Krishna- Balarama Temple. ISKCON Society says that Krishna’s consciousness is much more than religion. It is a spiritual, universal, time-proven process that enables one to achieve inner happiness, satisfaction, and higher consciousness. They say you do not need to wear a traditional dress or change your hairstyle or religion.
The moment you enter the ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan, you hear a melodious chant –
“Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare;
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare!!”
Krishna means the all-attractive person, Rama means the highest pleasure, and Hare means Krishna’s internal pleasure potency known as Srimati Radharani.
It’s not the Indian devotees who perform the Kirtans by chanting Hare Krishna Mantra, but, it’s the foreigners who chant the Maha Hare Krishna Mantra and indulge themselves so deeply in the Lord Krishna’s devotion. This whole scenario is such an amazingly peaceful experience that you would not want to miss it at any cost. It’s altogether a different world, here in ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan.
Prem Mandir
Prem Mandir is a temple of God’s divine love. This temple is a practical experience as the center of knowledge and devotion. The main attraction of the temple can be noticed after sunset only. Hence, it’s better to visit Prem Mandir after 6.30 PM.
The view of the Prem Mandir is so amazing that you will be bound to say WOW. Built on 54 acres of land in Vrindavan, this love shrine is 125 feet high, 122 feet long, and 115 feet wide. In the complex of the Prem Mandir, there are beautiful green gardens, fountains, and beautiful scenes of Lord Krishna and Radha, Shri Govardhan Darshan, Kaliya Naag Daman Leela, and Jhulan Leela have been shown. Here the simple couplets of Shri Radha Govind are written on the smooth straps of marble so that the devotees can easily read and understand them.
Not only this but in the darkness of night, Prem Mandir illuminates with eye-capturing & breathtaking beautifully colorful lights, which is worth watching. After you satisfy your eyes and mind, your next destination should be Vaishno Devi Temple.
Maa Vaishno Devi Dham
